I use both the 85/1.4G and 70-200/2.8 VR II in the studio. The 70-200 is just as good as the 85 stopped down - an amazing lens. But 90% of my shots are taken with the 85 because of its portability. The OP was comparing the 70-200 FL vs. the 70-200 S. There are three versions of the 70-200mm/f2.8 AF-S VR in the F-mount. I happen to have the first two, but the 3rd, most recent F-mount version has one fluorite element and is supposed to be the best among the three. That version is commonly referred to as the FL version:
